Ex-militant leaders seek payment for NDDC contracts

Ex-militant leaders in the Niger Delta have urged the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission to pay for executed contracts.

According to the former agitators under the auspices of the Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative, the non-payment of contractors whose jobs had been completed and certified by the commission was causing them untold hardship.

In a statement on Sunday by the LPCDI national president, Rueben Wilson, and the secretary, Nature Kieghe, they also complained that some contractors were facing threats of eviction from their homes and other property forfeiture to banks over unpaid loans collected to finance the jobs.

They said, “The contractors that are mostly affected are the ones that have completed the “emergency contracts” awarded by the Ekere Nsima administration. Most of them borrowed money from the banks with their houses as collaterals to finance the execution of the “emergency contracts.”

“We are, therefore, calling on the IMC (of the NDDC) to commence payment of such contractors  to avoid banks seizing their houses used as collaterals.”
