We have installed 59,425 metres in FCT, Kogi, environs — AEDC

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), says it has metered 59,425 customers in its franchise areas of FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi and Niger under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP).

AEDC’s General Manager, Corporate Communication, Mr 0yebode Fadipe made this known  in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had in 2018 introduced the Meter Asset Provider Regulation (MAP) designed to fast-track a closure of the end-user metering gap.

The implementation of MAP, however, commenced on May 1, with the aim of eliminating the practice of “estimated billing’’, except during exceptional circumstances envisaged under the said regulation.

He said that 76, 075 customers applied for meters, we have visited and verified 74, 554, while 65,368 had paid.

“So far, we have metered 59, 426, so we just have few customers to deal with and they will be sorted out this week.

“We don’t have any issue delaying the supply of meters, it would just be site verification and other logistics.

“The MAP implementation team from the NERC visited our offices and we opened our stores to them and they saw that we have meters.

“They also visited our office in Nassarawa, so our problem is not the issue of meters, its just the processes attached to the installation and those processes are quite short, he said.

Speaking on AEDC’s preparation for the Christmas period, Fadipe said that the company had always created special technical teams to take care of emergencies during the period.

“We know that during this period, we can have one or two emergency so that people can have electricity to celebrate during this Christmas. Our technical team will be on ground.

“ We stretch our work force beyond our normal call of duty, so that customers can also have the feeling of power supply during the yuletide period,’’ he said.

Fadipe said that AEDC was carrying out maintenance in the central area in conjunction with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to replace a faulty cable.

He said that the maintenance would eliminate load shedding and ensure elongated power supply.

“One of the things we are doing is to make sure that we further improve on the capability of our network to take more load.

“We recognise the fact that a lot of people will require more supply during this period, so we prepare for such high demand period.
