Only Kwara State has vaccinated more than 50 per cent of eligible population required for the first doses of AstraZeneca vaccine since the country started COVID-19 vaccination on April 15, 2021.
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency disclosed this on Sunday in its COVID-19 vaccination update.
According to the update posted on the agency’s Twitter handle, @NphcdaNG, 1,096,727 eligible Nigerians have so far been vaccinated with first dose of the vaccine as of April 18 nationwide.
Lagos is leading other states with a total of 203,697 eligible persons vaccinated in the state.
Lagos is followed by Kano with 58,353; Kaduna with 56,694; Ogun with 53,255; and FCT with 49,192.
But in terms of the percentage covered, Kwara State is leading with 111.9 per cent with 31,208.
A footnote provided on the update read, “States with coverage above 100 per cent have vaccinated more than the 50 per cent of eligible population required for the first dose.”
Only Kwara State has attained that feat of recording above 100 er cent according to the document.
States that are getting close the 100 per cent mark, however, include Ogun (94.2%); Bauchi (89.8%); Ekiti (86.8%); Ondo (85.6%); Jigawa (82.5%); and Lagos (80.2%). Nigeria’s vaccination figure rises to 566,917 Kogi still missing as Nigeria’s vaccination rises to 513,626

The NPHCDA explained that the percentage of target reached “is calculated by dividing the total number of people who have received their first dose by total eligible people targeted with vaccine in current phase, and the answer multiplied by 100.”
The Executive Director of the NPHCDA, Faisal Shuaib, had on Friday disclosed that a total of 8,439 mild Adverse Events Following Immunisation have been reported across Nigeria since the country started the vaccination.
Speaking in Abuja at a joint press conference organised by the NPHCDA and the World Health Organisation to update Nigerians on the status of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, Shuaib had said five states had the highest records of the AEFI namely: Kaduna (970) Cross River (859), Yobe (541), Kebbi (511), and Lagos (448).
The NPHCDA boss, however, said the country had not recorded any death or case of blood clots related to the administration of the vaccine.
Shuaib also cleared the Lagos State Government of recent allegation of COVID-19 vaccine mismanagement.
He said a team set up to investigate the allegation found out that the reports were inaccurate.
