Forensic Firms Conduct Training for EFCC, FIRS, NASS

Forensic firms, JJTC Consulting Ltd and the International Academy of Forensics in collaboration with International Institute of Certified Forensic Investigation Professionals (USA) organised a four-day intensive forensic biometrics practical training to acquaint government agencies and various group of professionals with the knowledge and the role of biometric forensics in criminal investigations.

A statement signed by Country Director, International Institute of Certified Forensic Investigation Professionals (IICFIP) -USA, Dr. Stacy Nwodo, said the training was designed to create the needed awareness through a structured hands-on practical training in crime scene investigation, forensic serology, fingerprint science and questioned document examination.

It said over 50 participants comprising medical doctors, lawyers, academia, security personnel and students from Nile University attended the training.

Others include senior staff of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), staff of the National Assembly as well as others from several private organisations.

“The training comprised both theoretical and practical sessions to help participants apply whatever they learnt from the preliminary lecture.

The participants went through a pre-test and post-test assessment structure to evaluate their level of understanding in both the lecture and practical sessions.

“Participants were also grouped into investigative teams to undergo well-structured simulated crime scene set-ups to collect various evidence for the diverse forensic investigation tests at the crime laboratory. The evidence collected were biological (blood, urine, sweat, saliva, hair, etc), documents and fingerprints,” he said.

The training exercise also covered lectures on the various evidence collected at the various simulated crime scenes followed by the techniques used in forensic questioned document, the basis of fingerprint science and its application, as well as the collection, packaging and subsequent examination of biological evidence such as DNA.

The JJTC Consulting Ltd affirmed that the training ended on Sunday, the 20th of June 2021, with a closing ceremony and awards were presented to several participants who distinguished themselves throughout the training.

It said the best team in crime scene investigation, questioned documents, Serology/DNA and fingerprints also received recognition.

The programme was facilitated by seasoned experts in the field of forensic science and strategic/risk financial experts.

The JJTC Consulting Ltd/IAF is geared towards providing certification in various fields of forensic studies by liaising with both locally and internationally accredited forensic institutions, to offer the needed solution in forensic investigation in the administration of Justice.

It said the collaboration had put in place an advanced practical training in forensic biometrics and cyber security, slated to hold in the next two months
