NPA distributes books, educational materials to Lagos schools

The Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Tin Can Island Port (TCIP), has distributed textbooks, notebooks and other writing materials to students in 10 secondary schools in Ajegunle and Apapa areas of Lagos State.

The Port Manager, TCIP, Ibrahim Yunusa Anji, while addressing students at Alakoto Secondary School, Tolu Complex , expressed the authority’s determination to support the educational drive for schools within the community, adding that NPA would always give back to the immediate society in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.

The 10 schools that benefited from the CSR exercise include Adeolu Secondary School (Junior), Tin Can Island High School, (Junior), Alakoto High School (Junior), Reservation Secondary School (Junior) and Expressway Secondary School (Junior), Unity Senior Secondary School, Oshodi Senior Secondary School, Bola Ige Millennium Secondary School, Oluwa Memorial Senior Secondary School and Newland Senior Secondary School.

Anji urged the students to cultivate reading habits geared towards a brighter future in their chosen field of endeavours, as well as devote ample time for their studies.

The port manager, who prayed for the students to be brighter than their parents, added that the purpose of the visit centred on giving back to the society.

He said NPA is determined and dedicated to giving back to the immediate community as it affects education.

“If the community is bad the organisations around it cannot progress and that is why we have to give back to the community. Our relationship with the community can only get better when we provide for the community because the education of the children is paramount,” he said.

He urged the students to make good use of textbooks and notebooks as a veritable tool to acquire knowledge.

The port manager added that some of the books should serve as reference materials for research works, urging the management of the schools to equip their libraries.

Also speaking, the Director, Schools Administration in charge of Agboju Amuwo District, Lagos, Yekini Shefi, commended the management of the NPA for the gesture.

She said the maritime agency has been supportive in time past to ensure the schools are equipped with the necessary materials for reading and learning to thrive.

The director disclosed that NPA had built three blocks of classrooms for a particular school in the complex and the Lagos State Government is pleased with the development.
